Your Freedom

In the ashes of confusion
A sensation of relief
All is lost except the essence
Of what causes disbelief

Did you corner each emotion
With your debilitating lies
While your freedom sets in motion
Every truth that you despise

At the altar of rejection
You pour out your adoration
Any word of affirmation
Sparks internal coronation

So you close your eyes and clench your fists
Your honor is your first defense
Your fortress of potential
Given freely in surrender

For the ones who would release you
Demand freedom, and its cost
Is far more than you can stomach
More expensive than the loss

Of assured devastation
Brought about by your own hands
It’s familiar in its sweetness
Isolation is your friend

In the empty space surrounding you
You’re safe with all your lies
So worship in this empty place
This altar you despise

Still someday soon your enemy
May yet become your friend
As they offer you protection
In exchange for all you’ve been

Would you dare grasp the extended hand
Holding the sword on which you’ll fall
And release your grip on all that’s left
That makes you stand so small
